Quick Recap
The big announcement this week that caught everyone by surprise was CEA and C12 announcing a 1M Qubit prototype by 2024 promising a wafer scale chip. This is a big jump from their previous research and commitments so we will see if we can or not run Shor’s algorithm there in no time. They join the 1M commitment group together with PsiQuantum and Google. QIP has released videos for most of their talks and can be accessed here QIP2022. Lots of very technical but interesting content. QunaSys and TerraQuantum raise new rounds (the latter completing theirs at 75M). Finally QuantumMachines acquires QDevil on the platform side, another bit on the consolidation path for this year. And there are more surprises to come.
Lastly, Capgemini launched their quantum commercialisation report in which I had the pleasure to participate. You can download it from the link but the two biggest takeaways:
43% of organizations working on quantum technologies expect them to become available for use in at least one major commercial application within the next 3–5 years
23% of organisations either working or planning to work on QT

How the C12-CEA partnership can help drive quantum computing
French research institute CEA and startup C12 Quantum Electronics have announced a partnership to produce multi-qubit chips at wafer scale using carbon nanotubes. C12 and CEA also claim to be the world’s first to manufacture components to control qubits using standard manufacturing processes.
CEA says it manufactures quantum chips on 200mm silicon wafers by relying on standard CMOS processes, while C12 is pursuing carbon nanotubes as a novel approach to build qubits, which are the fundamental building blocks of quantum computers. Combining these two approaches would result in a scalable and ultra-coherent platform for quantum computing. Coherency refers to the lifetime of a qubit: the amount of time it can retain its information before the quantum state is destroyed by noise. A full prototype is expected in 2024.
