Quick Recap
Several big announcements happened this week. We started with the release of the Azure quantum cloud, that provides an ecosystem of providers, Q# language tools and SDKs in a similar way AWS did a few months back with BraKet.
A few days later IBM announces their revamped version of last year’s roadmap where they go beyond the promised qubits getting into co-design, tooling and frameworks. A clear direction for both OpenQASM and Qiskit.
A word of caution here: We have seen how the (classical) Open Source game has been played so far (Affero licenses anyone?) could something similar happen to this hardware providers owning key SDKs for quantum development?
Still, pretty exciting times. Which brings a well deserved call to action on ethics (see below) while countries lock in their positions in the industry

One Company Could Own the Quantum Product Spectrum
In the current quantum computing landscape, there are hardware and software providers with the most prominent players doing both. While the shakeout on which of these companies will become the prominent won’t even begin for a few years yet, there are some companies that have some significant advantages across the quantum spectrum. By spectrum, we mean the wide-ranging applications of quantum technology, from global positioning and navigation all the way to solving complex, scalable optimization problems.
The first in this category is Honeywell, which has the advantage of owning the supply chain of technology assets (from refrigeration units to control logic) to produce quantum systems from other businesses
