Quick Recap
SPAC SPAC SPAC, that is the word for the week. First IonQ, then Rigetti and now DWave announcing their IPO plans via a SPAC. Now this makes the three major qubit technologies up for grabs in the market. Superconductors, annealers and trapped ions. (Anyone promising Majoranas wants to dare?)
With this forecast who could not join the ride, promising 84% gross margin and 163% CAGR through 2026? Now, remember D-Wave also announced plans to build a gate based computer, and that two weeks ago deployed their 5000Q in Germany. All that for a mere $1,6B
In the meantime, what can you do with an annealer?
But don’t go too far. This week has been the security one with several pieces on post-quantum cryptography and outlook. Nord Quantique raises CAD9,5M. Zapata partners with Rigetti for hybridisation of algorithms. IonQ and Duke release a new way of implementing a Toffili gate. The elusive gate that made us fight with circuit depths and QuaST launches in Germany.
Ok, that was a mouthful. If you don’t fancy reading that much, Mastercard did a very nice panel on Quantum for finance. Video below.
The Quote of the Week
"The minimum level energy is associated with the stationary state of the atom from which further transitions to states of still lower energy are impossible."
Gustav Hertz - experimental physicist and Nobel Prize in physics laureate.

The race to save the Internet from quantum hackers
Even if Q-day never happens, the possibility of code-breaking quantum machines has already changed computer science — and, in particular, the ancient art of cryptography. “Most people I know think in terms of quantum-resistant crypto,” says computer scientist Shafi Goldwasser, director of the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at the University of California, Berkeley.

Over the past two months, news about this technology has pinged into my email inbox at least a half-dozen times, most recently in the form of a report by independent investment advisory firm Pathstone: "Quantum Impast: The Potential for Quantum Computing to Transform Everything." No pressure in that thesis, right? Before I jump into some highlights from the analysis, let’s pause for a brief definition and to consider a few developments that have stoked interest in quantum computing in the world of climate tech and ESG investing.
