Quick Recap
And we are back from the holiday break! Did you think Quantum did not advance during the holidays? Well, you were wrong! Here is the recap of the last couple of weeks. And tomorrow you will receive a special 2021 recap :) But for now, read on:
The holidays have been filled with promises for 2022, 2021 recaps, and of course predictions. Some legit, some not much, but useful anyways. IonQ discussses hybrid approach. France takes a leap on their quantum strategy. Quantinuum / Honeywell give another push on their quantum volume, advances on squeezed states of light for our qubits and the results of Zapata’s study on QC early adopters. $1M+ budgets and 41% expecting competitive advantage within 2 years. Mind you the sample is relatively small, but still representative on what is going on. This reports gives us the high we need to push even further this year!
Remember the tardigrades from before Christmas? Well, read this thread that explains pretty much everything.
What is all this craze about quantum companies going public through SPAC. First IonQ, then Rigetti and who knows who else? Quantum Steve gives a fantastic round up in this video.
The Week in Quantum Computing
Quantum Computing for Business Leaders
In 1994, mathematician Peter Shor introduced a quantum-computing algorithm that could reduce the time it takes to find the prime factors of large numbers from billions of years using a conventional transistor-based computer to a few days using a quantum computer.

Top Ten Quantum Technology Predictions for 2022
I think it was Albert Einstein who said, “As far as the end-of-year prediction lists refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.”
With that caution in mind, here are a list of predictions for quantum computing and quantum technology for 2022.

When quantum computers forget: Overcoming decoherence
There’s no point in having a quantum computer if it’s not smokin’ fast; otherwise it’s way too much trouble, what with all the subzero temperatures and instability and such.

Paper: An approach to interfacing the brain with quantum computers: practical steps and caveats
We report on the first proof-of-concept system demonstrating how one can control a qubit with mental activity. We developed a method to encode neural correlates of mental activity as instructions for a quantum computer. Brain signals are detected utilizing electrodes placed on the scalp of a person, who learns how to produce the required mental activity to issue instructions to rotate and measure a qubit. Currently, our proof-of-concept runs on a software simulation of a quantum computer. At the time of writing, available quantum computing hardware and brain activity sensing technology are not sufficiently developed for real-time control of quantum states with the brain. But we are one step closer to interfacing the brain with real quantum machines, as improvements in hardware technology at both fronts become available in time to come. The paper ends with a discussion on some of the challenging problems that need to be addressed before we can interface the brain with quantum hardware.

Creating the Heart of a Quantum Computer: Developing Qubits
A computer is suspended from the ceiling. Delicate lines and loops of silvery wires and tubes connect gold-colored platforms. It seems to belong in a science-fiction movie, perhaps a steam-punk cousin of HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
