The heated debate over last week’s article on the FT about the quantum computing hype and potential bubble continues with additional rebuttals. Finland and Singapore join forces, both countries have mature and advanced quantum programs as well as promising startups. Australia makes strides with their Quantum Alliance and a good opinioin letter talks about what Europe needs to do to get on par. IQM, from Finland as well partners with QphoX. Azure also talks about the same issue: Scalability. How do we connect and control thousands of qubits. As Isaac Chuang said “(Quantum Computing) is not longer a physicist’s dream, it is an engineer’s nightmare” (Chuang is the co-author with Nielsen of the book all of you should have in your bookshelves: Quantum Computation and Quantum Information).
Meanwhile, at Max Plank institute they’ve managed to entangle photons on demand, which could prove extremely useful for photonic computers. Lastly: Did you know that we already have the equivalent of Moore’s Law for Quantum?

Quantum Software Components and Platforms: Overview and Quality Assessment
Manuel Serrano, José Antonio Cruz, Ricardo Pérez, and Mario Piattini, members of aQuantum has just published the paper “Quantum software components and platforms: overview and quality assessment” in the journal ACM Computing Surveys of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
This research work analyses the different existing platforms for quantum software development, both from the point of view of the principles of the Talavera Manifesto and the ISO/IEC 25010 standard.

Quantum computing poses an existential threat to banks' security
Quantum computing is rapidly moving from sci-fi tech to the real world, and regulators and financial institutions must both have a plan in place to address soon-to-be-obsolete cybersecurity. Left unchecked, the risk is beyond systemic. For some institutions, it is existential.

Entangled photons tailor-made

AWS Takes the Short and Long View of Quantum Computing
It is perhaps not surprising that the big cloud providers – a poor term really – have jumped into quantum computing. Amazon, Microsoft Azure, Google, and their like have steadily transformed into major technology developers, no doubt in service of their large cloud services offerings. The same is true internationally. You may not know, for example, that China’s cloud giants – Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent – also all have significant quantum development initiatives.

Simulating 44-Qubit quantum circuits using AWS ParallelCluster
Simulations are also invaluable to understand the noise resilience of quantum algorithms. Because the noise characteristics of today’s hardware prototypes often defy analytic treatment, they are instead investigated through small-scale experiments and intensive numerical modelling. Even performance evaluations of perfect noise-free quantum algorithms typically require some form of classical emulation.

Paper: AutoQML: Automatic Generation and Training of Robust Quantum-Inspired Classifiers by Using Genetic Algorithms on Grayscale Images
We propose a new hybrid system for automatically generating and training quantum-inspired classifiers on grayscale images by using multiobjective genetic algorithms. We define a dynamic fitness function to obtain the smallest possible circuit and highest accuracy on unseen data, ensuring that the proposed technique is generalizable and robust. We minimize the complexity of the generated circuits in terms of the number of entanglement gates by penalizing their appearance. We reduce the size of the images with two dimensionality reduction approaches: principal component analysis (PCA), which is encoded in the individual for optimization purpose, and a small convolutional autoencoder (CAE). These two methods are compared with one another and with a classical nonlinear approach to understand their behaviors and to ensure that the classification ability is due to the quantum circuit and not the preprocessing technique used for dimensionality reduction.

The U.S., China, and Europe are ramping up a quantum computing arms race. Here’s what they’ll need to do to win
Every country is vying to get a head start in the race to the world’s quantum future. A year ago, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia teamed up to develop military applications of digital technologies, especially quantum computing technologies. That followed the passage in 2019 of the National Quantum Initiative Act by the U.S. Congress, which laid out the country’s plans to rapidly create quantum computing capabilities.

Moore’s Law vs Rose’s Law vs Neven’s Law → Kjoob
First the question is What makes a law a law? A law as discussed here is not like a law in physics or a law defined by legal, a set of rules enforced by government. Laws as discussed here are rather theories and hypotheses that try to explain the future based on observations in the past.
