European quantum startups are gaining ground in the quantum sector, and could potentially leapfrog China and the US. Despite these two countries dominating the quantum sector, smaller companies, including startups in Europe, have the potential to make significant progress in the field. The recent announcement by the Google AI Quantum team on progress in quantum error correction has also made waves in the industry, we see their official commercial showcase and one take on its implications. Thales and Softbank have successfully piloted post-quantum cryptography in their respective sectors. Intel has released a software platform / SDK for quantum computing developers to build quantum algorithms. Bluefors has released a “platform” to experiment with their devices (dillution refrigerators mainly). NASA has developed a super accurate photon detector called PEACOQ that could be potentially used both for quantum comms and for photonic computing devices. QDNL in the Netherlands launches a small fund of €15M.Lastyle, Biden’s administration published the National Cyberstrategy that includes PQC with very specific instructions for government agencies and contractors. Do you already have a PQC plan?
